Mr John Edwards
Mr John Edwards qualified in 1993 from the
University of Birmingham and was appointed Consultant Thoracic Surgeon
in Sheffield in 2007. He trained in Thoracic Surgery in Birmingham,
Bristol, Leicester Nottingham and Sheffield.
He has a major research interest in malignant mesothelioma, covering
aspects of basic science research as well as surgical and oncological
management. In 2003 he was awarded a PhD in Oncology from the University
of Leicester. In 2006, he received the Society Thoracic Scholarship from
the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland,
which enabled him to visit the laboratories of the Tumour Immunology
Group in Perth, Western Australia and well known thoracic surgical
centres in the United States.
He is co-chair of the International Association for the Study of Lung
Cancer Mesothelioma Staging Project. He is chair of the British
Mesothelioma Interest Group and a member of the steering committee of
the British Thoracic Oncology Group. He is a member of the Clinical
Advisors Group of Mesothelioma UK and of the Clinical Sub-Group of the
UK Lung Cancer Collaborative. He has published numerous articles related
to mesothelioma, lung cancer and thoracic surgery in general. He is
currently engaged also in setting up a collaborative basic science
research programme in malignant mesothelioma in Sheffield..
