Clare Daniel
Clare works for the Sheffield Teaching
Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is based at the Northern General
Hospital.
Clare obtained a degree in nursing from The University of Hull and then
worked in various areas before becoming a ward manager in respiratory
medicine. For the past 14 years she has worked as an Asthma Nurse
Specialist.
Clare has diplomas in Asthma and COPD and has the BTS/ ARTP certificate
in Spirometry. She has an MSc in Health Care Practice (Nurse
Practitioner) from Sheffield Hallam University.
Her role is to see patients admitted with a primary diagnosis of asthma
for education and support as well as patients with asthma who are
admitted for other reasons but where a specific need is identified. She
also acts as a resource for other health care professionals in both
primary and secondary care and acts as a link to ensure a seamless
service.
Clare runs a nurse led clinic twice a week where patients can be seen
for early review post discharge as well as for further advice and
education including smoking cessation and asthma action plans. She also
offers skin prick testing and avoidance advice. Referrals are taken from
secondary care and direct from primary care.
Clare regularly teaches undergraduates in the School of Medicine and is
involved with delivering the Asthma Diploma for Respiratory Education UK
She is also responsible for educational initiatives such as writing and
overseeing the delivery of a competency based respiratory training
package within the hospital.
